I've had the pleasure of photographing both close friends and familiar faces during this spring graduation season. I've traveled north to Pennsylvania, east to my hometown of Chapel Hill, and just outside of Charlotte to Davidson College, where some of my best friends were wrapping up their senior year.

One session in particular stood out to me. I photographed a group of four close friends—bright, kind, and spirited—on Davidson College's campus. The campus itself is beautiful, with its tall, arching trees and thoughtful architecture. Just as memorable to me were the kind spirits and carefree nature of my graduates. They were eager to celebrate the occasion and enjoy each other’s company, and my intention was to tell the story of their friendship, growth, and celebration.

We explored the campus until the sun sank below the trees. As the evening light softened, I focused on capturing their personalities in motion. These photos have stuck with me for their emotion and presence. They’re full of feeling and meaning, swept up in movement and spontaneity-- captured in stillness, yet alive with feeling. They are exactly how I want my photos to feel. They inspire me to keep creating in this way.
